Hey Miguel,

No reason to hack up the stock kick panel when you can easily make a new one out of 5/8" plywood. I recently helped Brady from Bostig make a sealed box and a new kick panel for the new 10" sub in his Syncro Westy. We just traced the original kick panel onto a piece of MDO (medium density overlay sign board) and cut out the openings for the heater etc. with a jigsaw. Probably only took about half an hour total to do the kick panel. For the box we used 3/4" MDF with rabbeted edges and lots of glue and screws for assembly followed by a generous bead of silicone caulk all around the inside seams to give a better seal. The sub-box is held to the back of the kick panel with threaded brass inserts so it will be rattle free, but still allow it to be removed should the need arise. For extra style points you can paint or carpet the kick panel to match your interior.

By making a new kick panel Brady can always go back to the stock setup should he ever decide to sell his van or change stereo configurations.

Hope that helps, Jay Brown '85 Zetec Westy '87 Zetec Wolfburg

I have my new 10" Woofer ready to install. Originally, I was intending

this install it into the kick panel beneath the rear bench, on the

driver's side, but when I mentioned this to my son (brought up on the

teats of many vans,) he was horrified that I would 'butcher' the

Westy. He's right in some ways, but there exists a camp out there,

that is all about doing whatever gets you groovin' and free love, and

all that jazz....baby yeah, cut it if it makes you feel better. Well

it's times like these, when I am grieved by such a dilemna, that I go

to the valued list members for their wise comments. I am the butcher,

ready to draw blood.....and plenty of it! Cut! Don't cut! I am torn

and I don't want to pay for counseling, which, for the record, I have

never paid for, or gotten free........except on this list!

GIA (gracias in advance)

Miguel

I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.
