My experimentation involved just the front doors, so far.
I used one roll for just the front doors. The key is not to use it to try to
keep sound out, but to cut down on vibrations. You'll see VW even did this
in some strategic areas with a single thing coating of a similar material,
just a strip adhered to a large metal panel. It doesn't take much to cut
down on vibrations, but additional layers can help cut down on noise too. So
just make sure it's contacting all the nooks and crannies and directly
touching the largest metal surfaces.
I found it sticks just fine, but a hair dryer and Edge Banding Roller from
home depot make installation all that much better. Heat it a bit, roll it on
with some pressure, roll into all the little details..... and it's there for
life.
The "seat of the pants" difference is very noticeable not just in closing
the doors, but in assuming the cliche VW Bus driving position (at least in
warm months) of placing one's left hand out the window along the side of the
door. While rhythmically "thumping" the door to the sound of CCR, you'll
notice a more pure and deeper bass tone, far less "tingey".
