Thanks Jake.

Had checked it, and reverse switch function while on the bench. Shifter felt similar or same as other 2 older style ones.

But since the reverse light is now constantly on, this may be a clue. P 35.60 Bentley shows "Selector shaft, modifications"

Not sure what's involved. I'll have to confirm production date of this "new" transmission.
