Subject: '85 1.9 Fuel Filter/Tank/ Fuel Pump Mystery
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

OK, so if any of you were following this all started with a noisy Fuel pump (pump is new). I was able to aquire a stock mount from Go Westy (previously Zip tied). THis helped some. I also knew that I would need a new fuel filter.

So This past Sunday I replaced the filter and the short peice of fuel line from the tank to the filter. Easy job - no problem right?

WRONG! Now, the bus runs like crap - it's fuel starved. I checked the filter it seems fine (I can blow through it). Checked the pump - it has suction and is running fine. Checked witht he new filter in place and had no gas after the pump. So to be sure I put the old filter back on - then I had gas after the pump. Van started but was idleing crappy and had no power when giving it gas. So this processes off fiddling around continues. Old filter, new filter, blah blah - until finally I end up witht he old filter and everything seems fine.

Thinking the new filter might be crappy and possibly some sort of vapor lock or odd air situation. Then I try to drive to work and I make it about 1/2 mile from home and the poor running and no power start again. I limp back home - and here is where things stand.

No I will also mention that I know the tank needs a new seal kit because it overflows when filled. I'm guessing that could have something to do with it as well. Also, I have considered that there could be better suction with the new filter in place (and the old filter blown out) and that is causing tank sediment to block the tank outlet.

So what are the collective thoughts here - am I heading down the right path with the tank possibly being the issue? Any other thoughts or ideas?

Good news is that Pump isn't loud any more :)
