Are you saying that there is an eigth inch gap between the mounting bracket and the body pan, like where the four bolts hold the bracket on? The bolts should be tight and there should be no gap. I remember getting the same noise you are describing many years ago, and am scratching my brain trying to remem er what the cause was. I' let yo know what I figgered out a bit later on.
