I had the top bolt of a rear shock work loose and cause some noise. I would call it a clunking vs. a popping. Either way, once tightened, no more noises. To find it, I grabbed the shock and twisted it a bit and heard a Clunk, clunk. Good luck, Jim Wilmington, NC
