this thread is kinda funny...

the way I look at it is:

-our vans are old -while mostly well made, some parts are problematical and prone to failure apart from usual wear and tear -a lot of us drive them everyday, so if something goes awry its not too much of a hassle to fix -some of us only use them for trips, so we want them in tip top condition -some of us are mechanically inclined and enjoy futzing around with them, (some of us are not, and don't )

Vanagons, westies especially, are kinda like owning a boat, a lot of little maintenance jobs you should keep on top of. We bitch and complain, but we know it to be true.

Vanagons are vehicles for enthusiasts.

So fix things that need fixing right away (or else you get depressed about the van), spend money on fun accessories, be realistic about the condition of the vehicle if you plan a long trip, and take along as many spares as makes you feel secure.
