I agree with that statement--absolutely agree. But the fact that there is an (at least) decades-long tradition of lawlessness there only emphasizes how irresponsible it is for us to have drug prohibition. The relative wealth of the US and our close proximity are just going to pour fuel into that fire.

And, thinking outside of Mexico, look at the support we are giving to groups like the Taliban and the cartels in Columbia. If billions of dollars of American money is going to go to these thugs and terrorists, it should be through the traditional means of our corrupt government supporting their corrupt government with foreign aid and arms deals, dang it!
