My 1991 Volkswagen Vanagon GL Campmobile (Westy to most of you) has two identification stickers. One is on the metal below the fuse box in front of the driver's seat near the footwell. The second is on the back pillar (vertical door jamb?) of the driver's side door. Both give manufacturer information and the i.d. number. The one on the door jamb is metalized. The one under the fuse box may have originally been metalized, but it has a paper surface now, and the print is still quite legible, so I am not sure about the metal surface. There are numerous other stickers on the vehicle (both inside and outside), some of them evidently original, and some replacements. All except the sticker under the fuse box are metalized. There is no identification sticker on the outside of the vehicle, either on the door like Trevor's, or below the door like Richard suggests.

I guess this varies with year model, which particular vehicle type, with country of initial sale as Trevor suggests, and possibly on a whim at the factory. It will likely remain a mystery to most of us.

I don't think he said (or implied) that the sticker itself was anything out of the ordinary, just its placement.
