Subject: Steering too stiff and seems to be getting stiffer

My wife and I drive a 1991 Vanagon GL with over 200K on it. Recently I had the indicator signal stalk replaced - it got broken off, there was something else that needed doing and I had a repair shop do it.

Since the repair the steering seems to be getting harder and harder to turn. Maybe this is a coincidence - the van has many miles on it after all - but my wife who drives it daily, thinks it started with the repair. What could the shop have done that would have had this effect?

I should say, the signal doesn't cancel any more after you complete the turn. And I would take it back for that, of course, but at this point I'd like to know what's wrong BEFORE I trust it to that shop again. This is a shop I've been going to for years, but lately they seem to have fallen off.

It's a power steering model but the fluid is topped up and there's none of the noise you'd normally get if there was a power-steering- pump problem.

Please p-mail me with replies as I seem to have gotten dropped off the list.

Thanks,

Steve Edwards, 91` GL Vanaru in Chicago.
