I read here on this list recently that VW's goal was to make a car for the price of a motorcycle. That was news to me. I don't know if they actually did it or not. All the other manufacturers Arkady mentions probably didn't have that same goal. If you make a car for the price of a motorcycle, you probably can't expect it to last as long as the motorcycle would! :) Yes, I'd prefer to have a Westy that's ultra-reliable and parts readily available. With Alistar's leave, I'll "bitch" a little, too. But I knew what I was getting into when I bought it and I'm glad I did. Wait until I get pics of the interior up. Have you ever seen an '85 Westy with an unused water tank, sink and stove, and interior in like-new condition, in 2010? I think it's virtually 100% stock, too. Unbelievable.
