Subject: Hose clamps..
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

While I was changing fuel filters and checking/revising my fuel supply system I noticed, like people have mentioned, that some of my screw-type hose clamps are getting rusty. I didn't think "rust" when I replaced most of them a few years ago with new from my FLAPS.. So I'm replacing them this time with SS marine hose clamps, available online or in your local marine chandlery. The 'old' clamps that are out of the weather were not even rusty, but the ones between my tank and firewall, under the van, are..

Besides having SS for all the parts, the marine clamps are a usually a magnitude better built..but more costly, of course.

A different topic: I've recently run two tanks of premium fuel through my 1.8liter 8-valve Jetta/Golf motor now. One tankful was burned at some higher elevations and interstate speed..My fuel consumption remained just the same....23/24 mpg...as it normally is, using regular 'gas'. I 'think' the little 'Mouse-Motor' ran a little better on the premium and perhaps a bit cooler (though heat is NOT an issue with the inline) This motor has no knock sensors, runs the Digifant fuel injection system. So I conclude that regular gas is the best value, premium might be a waste of ca$h.
