Does your mechanic know that the pump has to supply at least 50 psi working pressure?

The standard pump pulls fuel from the tank very nicely -- it's a positive-displacement pump and would likely pull at 100 psi except that gasoline vaporizes at much less pressure.

On the gasoline tanks there's a filter "sock" over the outlet line inside the tank which can get clogged. I think the longterm solution is a new tank, but blowing compressed air into the outlet can blow some of the crud back into the tank. I strongly suspect that this is your issue.

Yours, David
