TJ, The green wire you mention is likely the connection in the harness for the O2 sensor. Once you resolve the issue with the green wire in the harness, and if you still have the same symptoms, read the following: The same symptoms can also occur due to a poor ground wire that goes to terminal 19 in the ECU. The ground wire (brown) to that terminal connects to the engine case. This wire enters the engine compartment in the same sheath that carries the Hall sender wires (distributor base) but it actually exits the sheath before getting to the Hall sender. On your 87, it should terminate either on the left top of the engine case (if you have a/c, look below the compressor) or it may terminate at one of the 4 oil breather mounting bolts. If it terminates on the engine case, clean it up and reattach using a new bolt. If it terminates on one of the oil breather mounting bolts, suggest you clean that up, but also make an additional ground wire that jumps from the mounting bolt to another convenient location on the engine case.
