What Mark says is correct. When I first wrote the procedures, I wasn't
aware of any of the now known workarounds. Mark's is the best (we've
discussed it awhile back), I just haven't had the time to integrate it and
update the PDF. Heart Angiograms and Bladder Cancer Treatment/Surgery these
past few months has kept me partially sidelined while healing, most
everything's getting better now. I'll get around to updating it it sooner
or later. Thanx for viewing my page on the website.
I might add that I HATE the 84 Vanagon Speedo head (actually 82-84). Its
error factor is so horrible (as confirmed in Bentley), that when I drove my
84 Westy at an indicated 70mph, the CHP Radar Trailer on the side of the
freeway outside of Bartsow showed me actually moving at 59mph! This was
confirmed later with another trailer I passed. When I changed mine I used a
cluster from a wrecked 85 Wolfsburg with the Tach. Much more accurate even
with the slightly larger LT 195SR14 tires. If you do use the 84 Speedo
head, I recommend having an instrument shop recalibrate it for better
accuracy.
