apparently, as i have learned tonight, some '84 down vanagons did not have the #19 intermittant wiper relay. all '85 up vanagons should have this #19 relay. so if you have a '85 up vanagon then all you need to do is swap in a #99 programmable relay in place of the #19 one.

if you have a '80-'84 vanagon you need to check and see if your vanagon has a #19 relay. , if it doesnt, you need to remove a plastic tab in the wiper stalk.

And DONT INSINUATE that i was not being up front about this, as i wasnt aware that intermittant wipers was an option on the early vans. every vanagon ive ever seen has the #19 intermittant wiper relay.

whats the issue here? you simply remove your existing #19 wiper relay and nstall the #99 one in its place, and use the wiper stalk to set the intervals.

r. Bentley says that it is an option on my year & shows how to nstall the option if it is not ordered that way from the factory by ulling the plastic piece, but of course assumes that I know how to do hat?

aybe tomorrow?

om-I love plug & play, kinda like big tires?

Tom: In my '81, when I bought the "19" relay many years ago, I was disappointed, after I removed the plastic wedge, to find I still had no intermittent wiping. Closer look at the wiper switch and I saw that it was NOT wired to do it. So in '81 they wired vans for "with" and for "without" intermittent. Or maybe it was the fuse panel that had no wires "behind" where the "19" plugged in. I'm assuming that at some point they gave up and wired them all for "with", but where does Detlev fall? Hope it's not "before" 'cause you'll love playing with the operation of the "99" module. Richard
