Subject:      Rear brake hardware kits

Tonight I decided that I will leave the backing plates for later, as I need
the van for the weekend. I went to re-assemble the rear brakes, with all new
parts, only to find the retaining pins in the hardware kit were too short! I
was warned about this by Dennis H., but had already ordered the kit from a
list vendor, who shall remain nameless until I contact them. So I spent 20
minutes scavenging parts to make it work, something I had hoped to avoid.


In addition, even with new drums and shoes, it appears the lower shoe pins
will need to be shimmed for decent contact with the drum. Argh. After doing
Dad's EV rear discs last weekend, a rear disc kit for the Vanagon is looking
really good right now...
