Well, the weather cleared & I finally went out & removed 2 screws holding the 2 covers to the steering column, removed said pieces, observed the while plastic piece, easily removed piece & now I have an intermittent switch position on my wiper switch!

Unfortunately, either I am an idiot (been said before) or as Richard Jones mentioned, there is no wiring from the intermittent relay to the wiper motor to actually contact the intermittent switch position on early models like his 81 & my 84.

So next question is can I wire this?

The old relay is VW # 321 955 531 A or Siemens 5wk 1636 & appears to be the original? There is a wiring diagram on the side which I will have to investigate & compare w/ the 99?

YMMV,

Mr. BZ-almost plug & play
