For what its worth, I know I'm getting in on this a little late but this is what I did to my van. I bought the gowesty 2wd lift kit and sold the rear springs. I put oem factory stock syncro springs on the rear of my van with Monroe heavy duty shocks (rear). and then used the gowesty front springs and KYB shocks in the front. Great ride. I like the syncro springs in the rear much better ride than the gowesty rear springs.   http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/album_page.php?pic_id=642602

I'll get back to you on that... :-)

(had KYBs for >10 years, they seemed better than worn oem ones when new, but are now very harsh - I do drive a lot of rough roads though.)
