My original pictures linked at the bottom of this thread show the 'simplified' hall sender (sort of). In picture 3 of 3, it looks like there is a PN on the plug - I'll check after work today. Either way, possibly that 'new' hall sender isn't offered individually, so the PN you show is still current as replacement for existing 2.1L distributors. Vendor is GoWesty; they were fabulous with their customer service (typical in my experience) when it came to verifying/troubleshooting this.

I'd love to see what this "simplified" hall unit/sender looks like and what the manufacturer's number is (Bosch or whoever). I have no references in my current Bosch stuff pointing to this kind of hall unit for the Vanagon 2.1 distributor. VW & Bosch continues to list the 1237 010 039 (VW 052-998-065) as the current replacement for all 2.1 dizzys.
Don't pull yours apart to photo - you've had enough aggravation ;)
What & where is this brand/outfit that provides these rebuilt units?
Good thing this issue was solved and yer back runnin'

Apparently, 'new' rebuilt distributors for the 2.1L have the simplified hall sender, only having hardware on the plug side. The vendor double-checked their stock of distributors and all have this new style.
My non-starting problem after installing the new distributor was that I hadn't set cylinder one to TDC and adjusted the position of the distributor to match so it would fire on that cylinder. Did this per vendor's instructions and she fired right up!
...wonder if stumbling issue will be gone now, heh...
Thanks for all the help!

Just received/installed a 'new' distributor from one of our vendors and the van just won't turn over. Popped the cap, rotor, dust cap off and...am I wrong...is the hall sender missing??! I assume a 'new' rebuilt distributor would come complete with everything. Have a look, and thanks!
