That part looks like it's served out its useful life to me.
it's a Trailing Arm .....not an A-Arm.
if I'm following things right - the first picture is for sure a rear
trailing arm on a vanagon or syncro vanagon.
( A-arms are in front ..usually talking about the upper A-arm there )
You need a good used one - rear trailing arm. Or new.
I would not mess with this one.
if it was surface rust fine ...but it's not, it's cancer rust ...
you could rebuilt that whole arm if you wanted to ...
but silly to do when it's the same part as on a 2WD vanagon ...pretty sure
..
and there are lots of those trailing arms around that are good.
I live in a very rust-free climate. Have many vanagons and a few parts
vanagons.
Can sell you a trailing arm that's nigh perfect.
and I 'love' restoring things ....and working with metal ...it's 'what I
do'....just love restoring surface rust, making custom vanagon engine parts,
etc....
but this time ..with that rust in deep .....keep it for a metal sculpture
and conversation piece.
It's lived its life and not it's time for a new or good used one.
