I'm with David on this. I find 'hook-up' campgrounds noisy and crowded. If I'm gonna sleep right next to strangers, a motel room seems like a better deal...Specially since a lot of so-called campgrounds are almost as expensive as a cheap-o motel room. One dubious advantage of a campground with electric hook-up is you don't have to listen to everyone's generator. Heat in a vanagon? I can reach my stove right from bed, so I put on my coffee while still in my sleeping bag and when it perks, the van is usually really comfortable inside. If it is so cold that I have to stay inside to be comfortable..I travel that day...go sightseeing or head further south or put on more clothes. Don Hanson So far as electric hookup, that is just another thing that attracts more people to the campground and provides no benefit for us. > > When we visit a national forest we haven't been to before, and we want a > developed campground, we check for the ones that list no water or flush > toilets.
