a variety of things may be wrong ... '
hole in tank .. from rust or puncture
gaskets have let go ... level sender unit is broken (see gasket failure)

but equally important in this vein ... replace not only your tank .. sender
unit and gaskets ... BUT also
all fuel lines from tank to cylinder heads /injectors ... and dont forget to
replace the plastic through hull fitting at firewall with continuous hose

also it is useful to note in posts what year of van you have and what city
you are in so those who are really in the know and have same van year etc
can offer direct advice and help with mr mustard ... also the place you are
in gives access to knowledgeable people and mechanics ... who can whiz over
and lend a knowing hand ...
often the visitor will hold your beverage and offer advise as you do the
work ...
this proves invaluable ..as you dont want your beverage to be in danger of
spilling while you work ...
