When I got it my '84 would not take/use over 12 gallons (3/4 tank), I changed the tank and that fixed the problem (and the very noisy fuel pump which the PO had tried to fix). I cut the old tank in half to see is something obvious was wrong http://s197.photobucket.com/albums/aa190/becida/84%20Fuel%20tank/ and it all looked ok
