Subject: California Bienniel Inspections 86-later

This might be of some interest to those of you who own 1986-newer diesels in California. I went to register 1985 Syncro Doka today. I was advised at California DMV that beginning 01/01/2010, diesels built from and including 1986 are now subject to testing (or more likely) verfication that it is still diesel fueled.

My '85 diesel had been converted to gasoline by the former owner. No verfication required so I appear to be off the hook for now. My '88 Doka which got an ABA gas motor will now have to convert back to diesel or leave the area where inspections are required. I was considering throwing a Zetec in there. Good thing my Syncro 16" only went from a JX to an AAZ.

Of interest to converters is the 'as of' date of conversion to diesel. If the year is after 1985, you will now need verification every couple of years. The party is over -- almost.
