Some clarification was needed as to why your "short hand" is a problem. See below:

There really is no excuse to use the term.

You are correct that many Americans are not aware that many so called Japanese cars are actually made in the good ole USA. Just as many are designed here as well. For example, it is my understanding that we export the Honda Accord to Japan. >
