Hi Bryan, sounds like there's a little hope now, or less 'totally weird' anyway.

Good idea on keeping your old injectors, rather than turn them in for cores. and evidently, as you write, one was bad out of the box. I could even say 'replace just the *exact* right parts' and no others. :-)

Bummer about not seeing any other vans. I'm sitting by 14 or so of them right now, and there must be 150 in my local city and area. You gotta be picking up an inexpensive one just to help keep your good one going, if you have room for one, etc.

3 degrees in timing won't make that much difference .. so it that's all the timing is 'short' by ....that's not the real or main issue, most likely.

they do run better on the flats, you could say. Mine does all right climbing .. normal freeway hill climbing mode is 4,000 rpm in 3rd gear ( manual trans 4 speed ) which is close to 50mph ... acceptable for long freeway hills. I'm running a 2.1 wbxr engine in my 85 Adventurewagon- with same-as-you Didijet EFI , and the same distributor as you have, but 2.1 throttle body, intake runners and plenum, and entire exhaust system. It's not bad for a waterboxer..

Hopin' there's a breakthrough on your vanagon soon, and more of them show up around you.
