( warning ...long and gets ranty at the end , better don't read it )

hi Don.. I don't know if by 'neon billboards' you mean that actually, or the hyper giant ultra bright, huge ....LED looking 'signs' that exist now.

The first one I ever saw is on I-80, in Fairfield, Ca...approaching the Bay Area from Sacramento. it appears to be a hundred feet tall, and 50 feet wide ... and bright ...from a mile or so you're wondering what is that thing up there ?

and I shudder to think of how much electricity those things consume. There are a few others I think, in the Bay Area ...and there was or is a debate ( SF Bay Area members would be more up to date on this than I am likely ) about using them for emergency messages too, like during disasters.

But they're huge, and they're way bright, and who knows how much electricity they consume, but it looks like it would be 30 houses worth at least.

you talk about running the view. tell you what gets me ... those in power do not apparently care a one whit about the view for people on the highway. I frequently see storage units ........blocking off what was a gorgeous view of hillsides. I've seen that in Petaluma, in Napa, CA and all over. it's durn shame. Some with condo type home developments...where there was a nice view from the highway ...now it's just buildings, crammed together homes. "high density housing' you know, to stem urban growth.

Yeah, I hear ya on the creeping 'over clutter' . Hate all that myself.

Two edged sword of course. I listen to live radio from Kauai, Hawaii on my laptop. Can you just imagine the technology at play !

they play the CD disc there , or talk into the mike. With electricity likely generated by burning coal or oil in Hawaii. Computers put that on the internet. somehow......via satellite or under-ocean fiber optic cables it gets here, or 'on the internet' .. a near infinitely vast network of computers, all powered by electricity generated one way or another. then ...Clearwire sends it out from their cell-phone like towers. my modem, powered by juice from Bonneville dam picks it up. My wireless G router, powered by that same from-far-away juice, sends it to my 'office' and laptop. and on and on... miraculous really ...that we can send a word, or a picture, or a sound, or a video, to the entire free world for nearly free. that is pretty amazing. now just to use it wisely !

there are commercials that are so offensive and stupid, like on tv ... I want to contact the company and tell them... I don't care how great your product is, or how inexpensive or whatever... I would never ever buy because of your offensive obnoxious advertising.

here...this is a rant..and something that seriously pisses me off that I think is VERY BAD FOR SOCIETY .. and that is violence portrayed in TV commercials or wherever.

the was a TV commercial about a year ago or so where Tiger Woods beans someone with a golf ball in the commercial. for no reason .. other than hurling a golf ball at someone and knocking them over or whatever is a cool thing.

I find that beyond disgusting. In extremely poor judgment ...of the company with the product. as for Mr. Woods himself ...I'm sure he got paid big bucks... but really ............would YOU portray physical violence for a juicy paycheck? I would not. I have to think Mr. Woods has very poor judgment ......or he just does what his manager says ...or he just does it for money, or he just can't think very clearly. that that portrayal of physical violence is portrayed as 'normal' or fun or whatever ... is it any wonder the whole world is so screwed up and violent ??? like duh.

I would love to see the FCC sued over that. can you believe that ...?? it's probably not legal to show a woman breast feeding in a TV commercial...nurturing a human .. but hey, we can show attacking other people all we want. Disgusting. When I get rich I'll go full time taking this sort of extreme disservice to humanity on.

Not proud this culture, I'll tell ya !

Pure utter Dysfunctionality !

hey....it's all right if I act out with physical violence against someone, Tiger Woods does it on TV. Give me a you-know-what break !!

( I just saw the movie Crash < 2005 > with Sandra Bullock gorgeous babe ....how can Overt and near Continuous hostility be presented as any form of entertainment ????? My friend keeps telling me in the end they make the point that that's not the way to live ... all that mouthing off and overt hostility in that movie ....highly triggering to me . People love hostility ???? ........and believe me .. all the violence and crime we see on TV and in movies.....people, dumb people, copy that behavior !! )

rant off, whew ! gotta take a few deep breaths and get back to the pure innocence of enjoying our vanagons and our group .Thank goodness for that.

Scott
