There's this town in AZ, Sedona... these artsy wanna-bes with too much money bought houses on the highway/main drag, right in front of the red hills and rock formations for which the area is famous. Then they decided they didn't like the highway noise, so they wanted to build long high walls all along the road to block out the sound, which of course would block out the views for everyone but themselves. People for miles around were raising all manner of hell and hob about the whole thing. I don't know how it ended; I'll have to ask my dad when we get back out that way (reckon I don't care enough about it to google it). ...but it's another case in point.
