Subject: Door wiring on '91 Vanagon GL
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII; delsp=yes; format=flowed

When I opened up my front doors to troubleshoot a power lock on my '91 Westfalia GL I noticed that an aftermarket power-lock system had been installed by the PO. This "new" receiver unit now sits behind the shifter console on the floor and wires go from there to the 2 doors. The slider is yet un-powered. This unit replaced the original unit and when installed he had used speaker wire for the wiring to the locks in the two front doors. Is there any inherent problem with using speaker wire in this type of application? The wire insulation is more flexible and the copper must be of good quality etc. but should I perhaps replace this wiring with automotive wire?

Thanks for any thoughts, Sincerely,

Trevor Reynolds Airdrie, AB, Canada, '91 GL 2Wheel drive, AT, Westy "SEN". http://westfalia-91restore.blogspot.com/
