I know there's a lot of discussion about the correct load rating of tires for our Vanagons, but what about the correct load capacity for the wheels themselves? I recently picked up a set of Audi 16" X 7" 4A0601025P alloy wheels (photo: http://www.4usedaudiparts.com/wheels/whl-58737.html). The offset is ET45 and I know I'll have to have the centers bored out and get new spacers, lugs, and tires. Without too much digging, I find that these wheels were available for 2000-2001 Audi A4 (Curb Weight 3494 lbs), 2001-2004 A6 (Curb Weight 4024 lbs), and 2001-2003 Audi AllRoad (Curb Weight 4024 lbs). The Curb weight for the '86 Vanagon Syncro (referencing Jim Davis' Model/Year Summaries http://www.vanagon.com/info/years/1986/index.htm) is 4100 lbs. My search to find out if these wheels are safe for my '86 Vanagon GL has turned up no results. Anybody out there that has experience with vanagons and audi wheels would be the expert here, not me.
