I would agree we should be carful of what we roll on. that being said
i have put a few of the wrong tire and wheel packages on my vans. with
no failures to mention.
There are probably hundreds of vanagons rolling around right now with
the LTX'S . I have had them and don't love them. I have also had the
"correct tires" they don't feel much better... right now i have 16"
with a heavy car tire and it feels good... I have a westy with a bunch
of extras that add weight and i often travel with 4 or 5 friends ( i
added a jump seat ) surfboards, west suits, BBQ, skateboards etc....
FULLY LOADED... on gnarly mountain roads with steep switch backs,
badass pot holes etc.. agian no problems to mention....
so yes there are "correct tires" available and you should use them.
but there are others you can get away with... i also believe that when
you go with a bigger wider tire like the 225/50/16 that i ride on
there is less force on the sidewall.. shorter sidewall??
but there are also guys who wouldn't think of putting a FORD engine in
a vw.... i have 50,000 kms on one and think its the least expensive
most environmental way to go ;)
