I had the same problem on my '84. Plus I felt I could not see well enough through the right-side mirror.

Various vendors offer the later-model electric mirrors when available. They stay put, but they're expensive:

If you want to hook up the electric mirrors, the switch is expensive:

GoWest offers truck-style mirrors. Still expensive:

I didn't want to spend so much money, so I camped out on eBay for a few weeks until I was able to pick up electric mirrors, left and right, for around $100 each, and a used switch for $15.

I installed the right-side convex mirror a few weeks ago. It makes a huge difference! Much safer!

Still waiting for the left-side mirror and the switch to arrive.
