Thanks Craig and Max for the informative replies. I went without a pre-filter again. The tank doesn't have much crap in it, just a little bit of silt I noticed when I was tipping it out fully empty. I'll pay close attention to my fuel filter and see if it sounds like it's churning on anything unfriendly.
