Just throwing out some ideas about an easier side tent set-up...

To solve the space problem of packing a side tent, maybe someone could modifiy one of those rear tire carriers to hold a box containing the sides of the tent. Maybe have it swing around to the rightside of the van and use it as part of the tent structure. Maybe a sturdy pole could be attached to the end of the carrier that would be the back corner post of the tent and also used to support an awning. I don't have a Westy, so I'm not familar with tent set-ups.

Does this sound too weird, or should I go back to making tin foil hats? ---Milt

All these ideas are crazy until somebody figures out how to do it well. Great idea. I think you should do it. Then show us how. Raymond

hat I think would be really cool is a side tent doesn't take two people to set p, and take up a huge amount of cargo space. Doesn't seem like anyone has onquered that obstacle yet. Troy
