With all this talk about upgraded headlight bulbs, it might be a good time
to point out that I have a half-price closeout on Bosch H4 round headlights
that accept them. These are the same European spec H4's that have been
widely acclaimed on the Vanagon List, the Type 2 List, and the Samba.  This
is a killer deal at $44 a set, way below original wholesale. If you have an
'80-85 Vanagon and are still using the stock sealed beam headlights, this is
a no-brainer. There is no other upgrade you can make to your Vanagon for
anywhere near this price that will make this much difference in day-to-day
driving.

I also have German 60/55 watt H4 bulbs for $8/pair as part of this deal.
They are brighter than your stock headlights, but do not draw additional
current so you don't have to do any rewiring. My advice is to start with
them, as it makes the whole thing a 15 minute direct-swap install. You just
remove your stock sealed beam bulbs, pop these Bosch H4's in their place,
and you're done. If you're like most people, you'll find the imrpovement
with the Bosch H4's and 60/55w bulbs both significant and sufficient. If
not, you can always upgrade to higher wattage bulbs by adding a relay.
