jacking up just the rear of the van is fine, no need to do all four corners. I assume you are talking 2WD and not a Syncro .....much mo' involved project on a Syncro .

I support vans on 4 jackstands all the time. You just have to be smart about it. Some people don't realize it's easy to have a jack 'pull' on the van while jacking ..like the jack pad of a floor jack doesn't go straight up ...it goes up and moves back some .. if people don't realize that, or if they use a floor jack from the side, and the floor jack's wheels can't roll easily .. then yes, they could easily pull the other end of the van off jack stands. You just gotta be smart and careful about what you are doing.

but rear up only is fine. I support the engine from underneath with a block of wood and bottle jack... I also might lay a sturdy 2 X 4 or 4 X 4 across the top of the engine compartment, and hang the engine from that by chains or lots of heavy ropes. Or a combo of both, jack and hang from above.
