During my last transmission wrestlings, I found it handy to keep a wheel chock and hammer within reach. Especially for installing CV bolts.

Turn wheel, place chock/tap in place with hammer, tighten a bolt repeat ad nauseam. <grin> I did a criss cross method for final CV bolt torque. Not sure if that's a Bentley certified method, but it works for me.

Meant to post earlier in this thread. Re: transmission jack. I experimented with a strap using this type of hook:

to strap the tranny to my floor jack. Kinda helped, but found this worked best.

Made a wood platform with a large socket bolted to ~ center. Socket fit nicely in hole where floor jack cup would normally go. Also put wood rails on platform to keep tranny from wobbling side to side. One other platform I saw online had a wedge at the clutch housing end to help line up tranny at an angle.

A bottle jack helps me to tweak engine up/down to help align it to tranny during install.
