can use a straight shaft or a functioning VC. The functioning VC seems like a smart way to go, but if your VC is dead right now, getting a shaft (not the shaft) is less expensive than a new/rebuilt VC.

I think Derek Drew is still selling "sport" VCs, ie a bit stiffer than stock fro faster torque transfer. Downside of the sport VC is, supposedly, harder parking, so that is where a decoupler comes in...
