Dear Bob, You'll have to take it out again to set the idle... :-)

Not having the idle stab doesn't do the slightest harm -- all it does is tweak the timing to keep the idle from sagging under load. Adding one will have no effect on whether the beast will start. If you've been missing one for two years without noticing, you may not notice the difference when you put one in -- unless the idle has been set high to compensate for lack of the stabilizer.

Yours, David ps -- do please tell us what vehicle you have when you make a query. From context this time it's clear that whatever else is true you're running a Digijet fuel management system; but that's not to be counted on.
