This was the direction in which my thoughts were proceeding but you've basically covered it. Let's hope the rodent wasn't a virgin. Isn't that part of the world famous in literature and folklore for all kinds of evil supernatural activity?

On the other hand, perhaps his Vanagon was trying to pick up a snack or a kind of offering for Craig, much like a cat that leaves mice and shrews on the doorstep.
