David, please see my _Headlamp Relay Upgrade_ (http://frankcondelli.com/hdltrela.htm) webpage for all the information you will need. I have been installing the headlight relay kit and high watt bulbs for years on many customers vans and I have the kit on my personal '87 Westy. It works just fine the way I do it. The only problem you may encounter over time is that the original headlight bulb socket for the 9004 bulb will overheat and melt. This is due to the old, corroded, small contact in that socket causing too much resistance. Replacing the old socket with a new one from any good FLAPS solves this problem.

>>>>>>I've searched the archives before asking this question on a higher wattage= headlight bulb on my 90 square headlight Westy with the relay mod already= done. I have heard conflicting reports that say either you must upgrade= to larger wiring for the 80/100 watt bulbs and others that say that this= is not necessary. Either way I will clean the grounds and think that I ma= y put in a larger ground wire. I don't want to melt or overheat stock wire= s and connectors. On the same subject; after the relay mod I noticed that= my stereo (non-stock with a separate amp) then had some feedback when the= lights were on. Just an oscillating high pitched hum. Could this be relat= ed to the lights and speakers sharing a common ground at some point? I rec= all reading about this in one of the archive posts. Any insight or recomme= ndations would be appreciated. Thanks everyone.<<<<<<
