From: mcneely4@cox.net Citric acid is readily available. --------------------------------------- From: albell@shaw.ca citric acid is the beast. no citrus smell, just good cleaning action. -----------------------

Thanks Dave and Alistair. I'm with you both on the properties of citric acid... great stuff... Along with Vinegar, Borax, Soda, Table Salt...etc... the green cleaners... Heck, we were green before it was cool and PC to be green... I use them now that I am becoming an old-fart and sensitive to many organic hydrocarbons.

Hey Zoltan... you still following this thread? Zoltan was trying to get a couple a Radiators cleaned out... I think?

The organic acid I recall from the old post was an orange 'smelling' product. An organic acid, I do recall that part... I donno... perhaps it was Fast Orange Hand-Cleaner? I cannot fathom, diluting hand cleaner and putting into a Vanagon Radiator though....?? FWIW, Concentrated Orange Oil or Orange Peel Oil will dissolve rubber! Known as a very strong cleaner used in dilute solutions.

The procedure was to disconnect the Radiator from the rubber hoses. Drain... duh... Plug the in/out flanges of the Radiator. Fill the Radiator with the dilute orange smelling organic acid and let soak for up to 2-3 days. Drain and rinse well with multiple fresh water rinses. Reconnect the Radiator to the rubber hoses. Good to go.... The poster did this with the Radiator in his Van.

Sorry Zoltan, I searched the Archives and came-up with nothing. Put some por-15 on your old Rads and throw-em back in the Van..... 8>)

Phil Z. Still on the Rock Sticking to my story.
