So, just to report back, the diesel pilot bearing does work and does have a
built-in seal, but, since it is longer, you need to clearance the flywheel a
bit so that it doesn't squash the bearing (the bearing is too long to go in
flush). I did this with a step drill bit.

(There are also photos there of the diesel pilot bearing so you can see the
built-in rubber seal.
Hopefully this will last longer than an unfelted WBX pilot bearing would.
