This arc lifting is true of all floor jacks I know of except one--sears sells one that you snap a special jack stand into and roll it under the car. It lifts straight up and when you withdraw the jack, the car is on the stand. Then you snap in the other stand and do the other side. Costs $300 and I don't know if it will lift high enough to do a Vanagon owner any good, but I love the idea.
