If the conversion is done well, that's an excellent vangon engine conversion. Not overly powerful or torquey, but adequate.

and simpe and rugged to, if the installation was done well. it would even be the best attributes of both waterboxer vanagons and diesel vanagons .. the smoothness and power, and less stress on the engine of gasoline.. and a robust simple design with cast iron block a real head gasket ( waterboxers do not have 'real' headgaskets, like all other engines do ) ...

Oh, and 1.8 8 valve engines are inexpensive in junkyards . Hopefully it has Electronic Fuel Injection and not CIS.

CIS is identifyable by braided fuel hoses running everywhere on the engine, Much harder to troubleshoot for many techs. Kinda a messy engine compartment too. The Digifant EFI is sweet and simple. Hopefully it has electronic and not points ignition in the distributor.

but a GOOD well done EFI 1.8 inline four gasser is a very decent pacakge. Just not overly powerful. About the same as waterboxer ir slightly better maybe,. but smooth .. and can be super reliable.
