Metric does not give a number of thread per inch like imperial or standard
thread do.  Metric gives a number in mm that represents the distance between
one thread to the next, such as M8x1.25 or M6x1 or M10x1.75 etc.  There are
standard threads and there are fine threads.  For example M10x1 is a fine
thread.  They are used when something has to be held stronger.
