Subject: two 1.9L engines (both running), an AT from an 85,
remains of an 85 GL parts van
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

Hi,

I am doing a Bostig conversion. I have an 85 auto westy, running OK if you let it warm up before you drive it. If you don't it has trouble idling.

I have an 85 GL manual that is donating its manual transmission bits to the Westy.

The GL's engine ran fine but I think the water pump needs replacing. PO said coolant was coming out of that little hole in the pump.

I don't have space to keep the GL (although by default that's what I would do, in order to have access to parts, etc over time). Even if I could keep the GL, I have no need for the automatic transmission (nor the parts, if someone wanted them, for a conversion to automatic, since I'm taking them out, obviously) or either of the two engines.

The auto transmission was, according to the mechanic I had look at it when I bought it, "slipping a little" (I don't even know what that means), and according to him, probably needs a rebuild in the near-ish future, nothing urgent. Took it on a 700 mile trip into the Ozarks last year, did fine in them thar hills, etc.

I would like advice on what to do. Will these things sell? Do they have value to a recycler (my preference is to keep them around so people can keep theirs alive, but if no one wants it, will a recycler take it)? That kind of thing.

I'm in Texas in the DFW area, btw.

Any advice welcome.

mike
