the flywheel as been resurfaced once at least already .. those cicular-like lines on the flywheel.

it does look like someone drove it abusively perhaps. Make sure you get some pilot bearing dust seal in this time .. pilot bearings go out pretty easily without a dust seal, which might be what happened with your clutch.

see if the pilot bearing surface on the input shaft will clean up nicely, to a good smooth surface. oh, the clutch I recommend ... the ordinary Sachs original type... typically they are Rebuilt in Mexico, but I have used many and they are quite decent. Anything non-VW like LUK scares me.

on the dust seal for the pilot bearing, either it's a felt ring and you need a ring in the flywheel to retain that felt seal, and they are often left out. so it's either do that stock arrangement, if you have the little metal retaining ring ( not a part you can buy new ) and felt seal, which you can buy new. OR .. diesel vanagon pilot bearing with included rubber lip type seal...but the flywheel needs to be clearanced ... some material removed where the pilot bearing is ..since the DV pilot bearing is longer than the wbxr one, but it has a 'real' dust seal built into it. Worth doing. Make sure the crosshaft is good..finding many worn ones of those lately.
