First, let me say that I agree that replacing old fuel lines is extremely important, however... the cracking on the outside of the fuel lines can be deceptive as this kind of cracking can happen quite fast.

Unfortunately, it's kind of a catch-22. In order to truly check your lines, you need to cut them open lengthwise and inspect the inner portion. At that point, you need to replace them anyways. Sigh... Just can't win.

Cheers,

Jeff

Its been said over and over, to do it, but just to emphasize the importance of this...

I replaced my fuel lines on my syncro (all but the tank feed to press. reg. and return from "T", will do that soon) and boy is it sobering. The short lengths from fuel rail to injectors were cracked, the feed and return lines from fuel rails looked ok, except in one spot where line goes behind alternator there was an abrasion.

But those cracked short bits made me gasp. The longer lines were German and had a date stamp of 1985. I wonder if they were original.

I had a spare set of rails and injectors so I could do a quick swap.

Other replaced parts were the rubber seals (small ones on injector tip, and large ones on injector body). The old tip seals were pretty worn and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit of unmeasured air being drawn in.

Please folks, if you haven't looked at those lines, especially the short ones, please do it very soon.

alistair
